DD started weird hacking cry in sleep - any ideas anyone?

Hi there, my DD is five months and EBF. She will only go off to sleep at night either while being fed or being rocked. Over the last few nights she has started doing this weird hacking cry in her sleep - as soon as she is picked up she stops and is out for the count but put her back down and the crying starts again. The only way I have managed to get her to stay asleep is to prop her up on a pillow. I take it away after half an hour or so and she manages to stay asleep.

Anyone got any thoughts? My diet hasn't changed noticeably over the last few days so I don't think its that.

A bit of a cold? Might be that it builds up more while she's flat and being upright helps it disperse? I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon!

Oops, 'it' being mucus!

Thanks for that babyphat. After a couple of diabolical nights of this I tried flipping her over onto her front and it worked like a charm! This cry is now officially her 'I want to be on my tummy' cry. She has reached a lot of developmental milestones this week - tummy time has kicked in, she can roll over front to back and back to front and she can now sit propped up on her hands all in the space of a few days - so in retrospect its probably not surprising her sleep has been a bit haywire.
