Aftermath of sleep regression: what next?

Hi all,
Would love some shared experiences please. We're just (I think/hope) coming out the end of a fairly foul 4 month sleep regression (now 5 1/2 months), which included only napping for 45 min slots during the day, and waking between 4-5 times every night.

Those of you who have been there and worn the sleep-crumpled t-shirt, how did you get back on track? Did your DCs get back in a sensible pattern on their own eventually, or did you have to do any sleep training, and at what point?

I'm just preparing myself for the next stage!

Before the 4 month regression DS woke once or twice a night at random points and would only sleep for 45 mins at a time. During the 4 month regression he was up 3 to 4 times a night. Once we'd got through it, he just went back to 1 or 2 wakings a night. I didn't do anything, he just improved.

He seemed to 'grow into' taking occasionally longer naps at around 4.5 / 5 months. Again, I didn't do anything, it just happened. He's now a couple of weeks off 6 months (our regression didn't last as long as it might have done) and the general trend is for improvement, I think.

Hope you get a breather before the next regression!
