it's beginning to get to me now, am so tired I can't function. How can she be SO wide awake and ready for the day at 5am having only napped once for 45 mins the previous day and woken up every 2 hours through the night (for the past 10 months !

He he, wait until they sleep through until 7 and it is your dp waking you at 4am! Mine has gone rowing every morning this week, sets the alarm for early o'clock and then dozes. Normally sleep through and get up when he does at 5, but this week it's been 4am's all the way!

BudaisintheZONE · 26/05/2010 06:04

Sodding dog woke me at 5.10 this morning. And we are an hour ahead here in Budapest so it was actually 4.10 for you lot.

DH was up to fly to London and dog heard him and that was it. She was whining for someone to come downstairs.

turtle23 · 26/05/2010 06:18

315 "can I have a drink" from toddler, who was holding his FULL beaker that I left by the bed...then 515 again. Do these kids never sleep?

HotSprocket · 26/05/2010 06:26

Up since half 4 with 5wk old dd. She is very sweet though and i was suprisingly awake (for once)
i think she might go back to sleep soon though..shhhhh

StealthPolarBear · 26/05/2010 06:26

oh I can't stand the fact that other people's toddlers do 7-7. Another one here whose children seem to need less sleep than I do.
Lol at your face message turtle

orienteerer · 26/05/2010 06:31

I was, I don't have a toddler but I do live under the Heathrow flight path....the wheels are down for landing by the time they are overhead.

tinks27 · 26/05/2010 07:09

but sods law, i have got a tummy bug and so no bloody lie in for me as was in and out of the toilet since 4.30!!! nice.

tyyppppicaaaaalll!!!

i also hate the 7 until 7 brigade!!

Fruitysunshine · 26/05/2010 07:20

Blimey - I thought I was on my own lurking abour!

I have been up every hour or so for the past 3 nights are DD(2) has nasty Chickenpox which has created merry hell with her Eczema - Sleep deprivation has certainly descended upon this house..

Kathyjelly · 26/05/2010 07:22

I'm doing 5am regularly at the mo, for no obvious reason. I bet when I get back to work, it won't be so easy.

Harimo · 26/05/2010 08:22

I actually don't believe there are any kids who sleep 7-7. i think the mothers just say they do to make themselves feel better cos they are deluded!

thumbwitch · 26/05/2010 08:44

mine certainly doesn't - he goes to bes at 9pm and is usually up somewhere between 7:30 and 8:30 am. This suits me just fine as he is only 2.6 but will need to be adjusted whenever he starts school or pre-school and we have to be somewhere early mornings.

He's never gone to bed before 8:30pm - the only times he did, he was awake again half an hour later, no longer tired, and didn't go back to sleep until gone 11pm. If he goes down at 9pm he stays down - much better.

Hannah17 · 26/05/2010 19:26

Hi, it was so reassuring to read this thread as I don't feel alone in my 5am awakenings! You do start to think that you are the only one whose child doesn't sleep 7 till 7!! My little girl is 15 months and has always been an early riser although she had been through a phase of waking at 6am. However, since dropping her morning nap (she started nursery and has slotted into their routine) I really struggle to keep her up past 6pm and she wakes at 5am on the dot (she will sleep for about 1.5 - 2 hours after her lunch). I'm not really that surprised then that she wakes up at 5am! I just wondered what time your children were going to bed and whether anyone had any tips on keeping her up later which may then result in a later waking time? Has that worked for anyone before? Thanks

Harimo · 26/05/2010 19:40

Honestly, I don't think a later bedtime makes a blind bit of difference - except you are dealing with a tired grumpy child instead of a chirpy one!!

My DSD (now 15) got up at 5:45 EVERY DAY FOR TEN YEARS. Didn't matter what time she went to bed. She was up with the larks. My DD seems to be the same. Gets up at 5am regardless (she is 10MO)

I do believe that time is the only cure. My DS (just 2) is sleeping through now and would sleep longer if blardy DD didn't wake him up!!

And, DSD now has to be dug out of her pit bed at about lunchtime

Hannah17 · 26/05/2010 19:48

Thanks Harimo, it's just the books make it sound so easy - put them to bed later and they wake up later! Note to self - throw the books away!!

Harimo · 26/05/2010 20:07

I guess that's the key - the books are there to make the author a profit, so it's in their interest to make it sound like they can solve all your problems.

IMHO, it's just something you have to work through.

tinks27 · 27/05/2010 05:02

hey.. a 5am this morning.yesterday was obviously a one off.humph.

you are so right Harimo, think you do just have to get on with it.and think my LO is just a morning lark.

TEN YEARS though...aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Least my little one can't talk yet. those toddler years of shouting from the bedroom must be fun! Looking forward to that.

pass me the gin...

Harimo · 27/05/2010 05:33

We're signing in again.

DS decided to get up at 4am this morning.

Deep joy!!!

isthatporridgeinyourzone · 27/05/2010 05:55

Morining all - been up since 4.50. This is early waker no.2. Threw books away after No1!

turtle23 · 27/05/2010 06:23

DS1 slept 7-615. DS2 has woken every 30 minutes all bloody night. I have had 1 1/2 hours sllep total. Altogether. Gave up at 345. I hurt.

Harimo · 27/05/2010 06:25

Ouch! Hope you get some rest today, Turtle... I actually find it easier to just acknowledge that I am not goin to go back to sleep than to try as I just get frustrated!

Shaz10 · 27/05/2010 07:04

Son woke up at 5. I got up for a while but then husband took him to bed. (I've got work today). Need to get him up now to take him to grandma's!

(son not husband )

Thanks for the gin. DS2 fed 130-3. Just about dropped off at 4 when DS2 padded in and stood breathing over me. He is refusing to go back to sleep, though he is in bed. I want out!
