Safe co-sleeping with a crawler?

My ds is 8mo, and we are co-sleeping. But now although he can't crawl, he can commando shuffle and roll about bed. We used to put him to bed in our bed and put cushions along side.

But as he gets more active, what do you do? Putting mattress on floor isn't really an option as we have nowhere to store bed frame and have stuff stored under bed.

Is there another option?

I pushed bed up against wall and put toddler bed guard on other side. Suppose you could put bed guards on both sides, they come at least half way down.

Finally gave up on co-sleeping when DD started crawling properly as she would climb out bed between her bedtime and mines. It was either cot for her or 8pm bedtime for me so I picked the cot!

We co-seep with DS (13 months). I put him to bed in his own cot and then take him into bed with me when I go to bed a few hours later.

We have a big double bed that's pretty high and we also have a concrete floor (not great for him to fall onto!). We found that once he was moving about on his own there wasn't really any option for us apart from putting him in his cot because our bed can't have bed guards fitted to it because of the design.

I do often roll our double duvet into a sausage shape and use it as a wall if it's just me and DS in the bed (we can't push the bed against the wall). It seems to stop him rolling off the bed, and if he did push it off and fall, at east he would fall onto it!

He moves around a lot at night too, but seemed to have a peak when he was learning to crawl. It settled down a bit after a couple of months.

I just put a padded play mat at the bedside, so if any of the Dc fell, they had a softish landing.

We had a bed guard. Ds went in his own bed at 18 mths.
