Controlling wake up time

DS is 4.5 months old. I have a loose routine for his day, based on giving him naps when he is tired. Ideally I would like him to get up at about the same time each day so that I can help his biological clock adjust. (I know that some of that will come with time and maturity, but everything I've read suggests that getting up at the same time can help.)

At the moment we get up at 7am - I wake him if he's still asleep. However, he can wake up any time between 5.30 and 7. Sometimes he will go straight back to sleep after a feed, sometimes he will be happily awake for quite a while before going back off again. Until 7am I don't talk to him or open the curtains.

Does anyone have any tips on how to help his awake up time be more consistent (other than always waking him up at 5.30? ).

He is always in bed between 6 and 7pm, but the exact time depends on the timing of his last nap, since he has a meltdown once he's been awake for more than 2 hours. Naps have to happen when he's tired rather than by the clock, or there's no chance of getting him to sleep.

Hi Angel Dog. There's a good article here on early waking. But I'm not sure about setting a wake up time. I remember with my now toddler, I used to try and make the first nap of the day at a certain time, and that helped a lot. At 4.5 months though, sounds like you're doing great already!

Thanks. I'm trying extra black-outs on the windows to see if that will persuade him to go through to 7am more regularly.
