Starting solids and sleep

In your experience, has starting solids made your baby sleep for longer? At what stage can you expect them to go 8-12 hours a night without waking?

my dc 1 and 2 had solids at 4 months as was recommended then. Dc3 started at 6 months. None has slept through the night until they started school.

But plenty of children do, apparently

DD2 started sleeping from 6.30 until 5 at around 3mo, but at around 4mo she would wake up at around 2 or 3. i replaced her last feed of the day with a bottle of formula (she was bf) and this helped for a few weeks, but then she went back to waking earlier. i gave her a bit of baby rice at about 5 in the evening and she immediately started sleeping until 7 in the morning. it was obviously hunger that was stopping her sleeping properly, and a little bit of baby rice will do them no harm IMO.

My DS (7 1/2 months) eats like a horse!!! (lots!) It hasn't ever made a difference to him going thru. He still wakes in the night.
Sorry.

Still waiting for him to go more than 6 hours and he turned 3 in Feb. He slept "through" until 7am the other night after waking up twice to wee around 10pm and midnight. That was a first.
