Sleeping on all fours!

My 7 month old DS has started rolling over in his sleep and ending up crouched like a dog with his head buried in the mattress, still fast asleep. He wears a grobag but it doesn't seem to stop him.

I know babies often prefer to sleep on their front once they can get themselves into this position, but I'm worried both because of this head-burying thing and because at the moment he can only roll from his back to his front, not vice versa, so if he was to get into breathing trouble or anything he couldn't get himself out of it easily.

He sleeps in a co-sleeper cot (about 2 inches from my face usually) and so I am generally aware of movements etc, also I tend to go to bed when he does and sit and -+mumsnet-- read, so when he does it I can catch him and have been gently rolling him onto his back. Any ideas or pearls of wisdom?

My DS is 3 and a half and has slept like that since he was a baby. I really can't see how he can be comfortable like it, but it doesn't seem to bother him. I'm not sure what advice I can give, really, but he isn't alone.

Both my dc's sleep on their fronts with their bottoms in the air. I just left them to it as they had their heads to the side.

Ooh, my dcs used to do that. Bums in the air, we thought they looked like frogs.
But I guess that's why the yoga position of "the child" is so-called?

Both me and my DS slept like it from a baby until about 4yo.

Looks very uncomfortable, but we/they seem to cope!

DS2 (22months) seems to sleep much better in this position. If he settles down like this for his afternoon nap then I know that I've got a couple of hours to be busy! If any other position then it's a maximum of 30 minutes.

Yes - admittedly he does look comfy (and very sweet). It does seem to encourage him to release the most deadly farts known to humankind though, which kind of neutralises the sweetness aspect. I shall leave him to it then, nothing much can happen with me watching him like a hawk I guess. Thankyou all for putting my mind at rest!

Most toddlers sleep like this: www.mattmetzgar.com/.a/6a00d83451612b69e20120a7393280970b-800wi

Both my sons sleep like this too!

My daughter (16mo) does this, I always know when she's going to go down easily for the night when she immediately rolls into this position after transfer into the cot.

It's adorable. Enjoy it.
