Morning or afternoon nap

Ds is almost 11 months (10 adjusted as prem) and I think he is ready to drop a nap as he seems to only properly sleep for a decent length of time either in the morning or afternoon.
Generally he is not tired till about 11am (wakes at 7am) and if I let him he will sleep till about 12.45. THis is fine 3 days a week but 2 days a week he is at nursery they have lunch at 12 so he would sleep over lunch this and would cause problems giving him his lunch after the other children.
Do most children have their long sleep in the morning or afternoon?

Mine always had their long sleep in the afternoon, as otherwise they had to stay awake for 7h or so on the trot. If that happened it always led to hysteria and miserableness from overtiredness.

Mine didn't drop from 2 to 1 nap until about 15m, but it was always a gradual process, missing out one nap once or twice a week, shortening the morning nap on some days, and so on until they were only napping in the afternoon. Took about 3m each time.

If your ds is at nursery 2 days a week, that's a perfect opportunity to drop the mroning nap. He could still nap the other days until he is ready to give up or reduce more naps.

Thanks that's helpful. He didn't have an afternoon sleep today and crashed at 7pm but has since been up screaming every 15minutes since 8pm. Fingers crossed he's settled now!

Classic over-tired babe. Hope he's settled down by now and you have a good night.

He did settle and slept through thankfully! Nursery tried him without a morning sleep today and that was fine, unfortunately he was woken by another baby during his afternoon sleep though so only had an hour in two halves. Will try again tomorrow.

From about 12m dd2 has had her lunch at 11.30 then slept. On nursery days this means she manages about 45 minutes and has to go to bed at 6pm. On other days and weekend she sleeps for 2 hours or more and goes to bed a bit later.

So another vote for an after lunch snooze.
