CLIMBING OUT OF COT - time for a bed?

My 22 month dd has discovered climbing (well leaning too far) out of her cot - she had a tumble the other day and we have had cushions underneath just in case!
Not sure if she gave herself enough of a shock not to do it again or if it's time to take the sides off or just go for a full bed?

And advice would be a great relief!!!

I moved DS1 out of his cot at about 26 months when he started climbing out and DS2 needed the cot. We moved him straight into a single bed but it is a children's bed so low to the ground. We put a guard on one side and on the other we put the mattress from the cot down. We also fitted a stair gate on his bedroom door so that he did not wander into the bathroom or office at night.

I know people who moved their children into a bed at 18 months for the same reason as you and they had no major problems. Just the re-education about staying in bed!

The idea of a stairgate on the bedroom door is one I stupidly didn't think of. It would save the worry of giving us a HUGE scare in the middle of the night!!!

Thanks for that.

I was rather hoping the cot would be used for sometime still but don't want a repeat of the other day!

DS1 now shares with DS2 and as DS1 is toilet trained we have had to take the stairgate off the door. This means that DS2 (22mnths) who is just into his big boy bed has the freedom of upstairs. The first night I was getting ready for bed and nearly had heart failure when DS2 appeared at the bedroom door. Then last night at 3am I awoke to a little person standing by my bed! Certainly not for the faint hearted!

Yes, go for a bed. We did this with my 14 month old DD2 who climbed out and kept doing it. It takes a bit of perseverance to get them to settle in a bed and not keep getting up - but you may as well take the chance now she's doing it
