2 year old screaming the place down at bedtime

Hi- My 2 year old has always been an amazing sleeper. She slept thro from 11 weeks and has never really had a disturbed night and when she has woken in the night through bad dreams etc she only needs a quick cuddle and thats it. Recently she has started screaming at bedtime and it is quite distressing to hear, also she has started at nap time in the day. I have been firm about the day time naps as she is a monster without one but she tends to give up after 5 mins and either sleeps or plays in her bed until she finally goes off.

We have a dd2 who is now sleeping well but we've only just managed to get her to go thro the night so I don't want anything to change that.

Any ideas as its horrible to have her cry herself to sleep but she gets herself into such a state if we try and intervene as she wants to sleep if you know what I mean!??

i gather she isnt ill - there are a few viruses about at the moment - hand, foot, mouth (my ds had this and i didn't realise - screamed the place down at night), slapped cheek etc etc

If not ill, does she still need the day time nap? could she (and you!!) cope without it if she had some quiet time instead? Some children drop their sleeps earlier than others.

Does she go to bed before or after her sister? If after has she just realised this but can verbalise her displeasure!!! swap bedtimes round?

controlled crying? have done this with both my boys with good results - although not for everyone.

CAN NOT verbalise....

My DD dropped her daytime nap at 2.1. It made night times a lot easier and now is back to sleeping relatively well.

also meant to type "if before has she just realised.....". (sorry having bad day.)
