My 6mth boy is going down at about 9pm and sleeps well until about 12 when he usually has a feed then every hour or so after that he keeps waking up and fussing - stretching, rubbing eyes then crying. If we get to him before he wakes we can usually get him back to sleep by just holding his arms still but if we leave him he will wake up fully and scream. he has never slept well and we are trying everything. Any help and advice out there please!!! for two absolutuely exhausted first timers!!!!!!

I'm afraid it's just what babies do...

AAAARRRHG! glad to know were not alone anyway. Is there anything you can recommend? Chamomile tea for example??

Chamomile tea for you?

IMHO it just comes with the territory at this age, although I do remember how painful the lack of sleep is; you have my sympathies! I think he's a little too young for any kind of sleep training.

It's no help to you, but my youngest is 2.5 and still has a little cry a couple of times every night. There's always something to bother them, whether it's teething or a cold or growth spurts making them extra hungry or whatever.

It does get better eventually, honest!

its what babies do
sorry
but take comfort that you are unlikely to be in my position

gecko is 3 on sunday
she wakes every 2 to 3 hours all night every night

Do you think he might be overtired? You could try bringing his bedtime earlier (7 or 8?) and see what he does?

sallyandrewavery · 06/02/2010 18:42

Thanks guys!!! nice to know you are all out there thought about overtired but has 2 naps of 2 hours a day and so lively until about 8.30pm so not sure??

9pm is a really late bedtime - what time does he get up in the morning?

I'm not the best person to give advice though - although DD1 was (and is) a fantastic sleeper, DD2 (6 months) is a nightmare!

belindarose · 06/02/2010 18:49

If you need to hold his arms still, then swaddling might help. My nearly 6 mo DD is swaddled for sleeps, with her hands by her face so she can suck her thumb. She often comes unswaddled during the night, but it usually keeps her contained enough to sleep reasonably well.

He's up and about with us about 8am but he's only really just started sleeping in the day time! Beofre he went all day with no sleep then slept really well at night but its all gone to pot since having naps in daytime (confused)

I thought swaddling no good after 4 months?? Would dearly love to do it because when he was swaddled he was great! How do you do it so babies hands are near face? Advice please!
