5am battle with 9mo and cc not helping

DD2 (9 months) has always had a 5am feed, which we've been trying to get rid of since she was about 7mo. By 'getting rid of' I mean we've been trying to get her to have this early morning feed at 6am instead. Every time we do CC with her, it takes 5 days before we see an effect, then she'll manage to sleep through to 6am for a couple of days before she starts waking earlier again, and we end up with the 5am waking again after a few days. It's driving me nuts.

There must be something I haven't thought of. At the moment I have two ideas:

  • Doing CC again but NOT rewarding her for an hour of crying by giving her a 6am feed. Instead not feeding her before 7am, which is get up time anyway.

OR

  • Moving the 5am feed by 10 minutes every night until we arrive at a morning feed between 6.30-7am.

Which of these options do you think I should try, or is there another way which might work better?

(And please don't come telling me that she 'needs' the 5am feed, I am not having any of that )

Thanks!

Hi feeling your pain I started a milk related sleep thread this morning too!

I think the 2nd option would work better, we did cc with dd1 to get her to sleep through but she always woke early. We went in a bit later each day and soon she was sleeping 7-7.

I have found with both of mine that it is easier to just go along with them in this phase.
Both my ds's at similar ages started waking at 5am, so we just got up and started our day. It then moved on it's own to later without any pressure or force from me.
Now they are 2.5yrs and 11 months. Sometimes we get up at 5am, sometinmes we get up at 7am.

Ah but Silvery, she doesn't get up at 5am. She goes back to sleep if I feed her at 5am, then wakes for another one at 6am, then ANOTHER one at 7am. Which is why it annoys me so much because I don't get any sleep in between.

Thanks Girlsyearapart! I'll try that then, can always fall back onto option 1 I guess.

Are you bf? If so, could it be more for comfort than hunger?
Surely she doesn't need to feed every hour?
Personally, I'd probably get up at 5am and keep her awake until 8ish and go for a nap then.

Yes bf. I am certain she's not hungry!

Oh. What about getting her into bed with you at 5am?

Feierabend · 23/01/2010 08:39

She comes into bed with me at 6am and then will happily sleep for another 1-2 hours. Thing is, I really don't want to be woken up at 5am in the first place. If she wakes me up at 6, I don't mind that at all. She can have milk, cuddles, sleep in my bed, whatever. But not at 5am!
