Daddy's chest is too comfy!

Hi,

Dad to an 8 week old girl who will sleep through a nuclear war if she's lying on her dad's chest, but won't stay asleep for more than an hour in her moses basket.

I love having her asleep on me, but it can't last forever obviously. Am I being ambitious in thinking she should be sleeping for longer at this stage? She's a pretty good feeder (being breastfed with 1 formula last thing) - she's already over 14lbs as well and takes 7oz of formula in her last feed at 11pm.

Please any advice would be great...

(PLEASE don't tell me about putting a hot water bottle/ worn t-shirt etc in her basket - believe me we have looked at every book there is!)

Matt

have you considered co-sleeping?

I know it sounds mean but I think you need to persuade your lovely baby to sleep in her cot. Otherwise you're making a rod for your own back.

It's scary being out in the real world compared to inside mummy. Lying on you she can hear your heart beat, breath etc and it's almost like being inside mummy still. But she has to get used to sleeping in a Moses basket or crib asap. The longer you leave it, the harder it will be to do.

It's always hard doing this and the method you choose is up to you, but unfortunately it needs to be done soon.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings

misdee is right, you can co sleep if that suits you. Lots of people do it and love it.

I preferred to have my bed to myself and hubby though

Saved getting them out of my bed when older and more set in their ways.

See I am mean

i have co-slept with all of my dd's on and off. atm only dd4 regularly sleeps with us, she is 14months old.

my 9yr old rarely gets in with us, except for a morning cuddle.

7yr old, occasionally find her at the bottom of the bed asleep, but a small nudge sends her back to her bed.

4yr old, about once a week, sneaks in for a cuddle in the middle of the night, but will go back to her bed, and has done since she was under 2.

I co slept with all of mine as well, on and off with DH in the bed. We took the side off a cot and bumped it up next to the bed, that way I could feed and have them next to me without worrying about them being 'in bed' with me.
DD1 is nearly 4 and sneaks in in the morning or if she is ill.
DD2 is 2 and also sneaks in in the morning, both been in cot in their room since they were 6 months old.
