Music and lights

Do any of those things you attach to a cot that play music / shine lights on the ceiling / whatever actually help in getting a baby to lie in there awake without crying and to doze off to sleep?

I have been playing soothing music (Chet Baker) for the last couple of days when getting DS to sleep for his naps. I would recommend it - I have no idea if it gets him to sleep quicker, but it certainly makes me feel more relaxed!

I used to put classic fm on for dd when she was difficult to settle.

She has sn but relates really well to music.

wasn't so impressed tonight when dp had his electric guitar out and she was twanging it with LOADS of screechy feedback, though. She was in heaven and giggling away but my ears were bleeding!

Oh dear. DS currently howling over the soothing sounds of Chet Baker. Have handed over to DH for the moment.

For first 3 or 4 months of DD's life she went to sleep with a soothing music CD - we used it as sleep training until she was so used to dropping off to sleep by herself that we stopped it and luckily she was fine without it. I was too scared to use her music and lights cot mobile as it seemed so loud and I thought it would actually distract her from falling asleep.
