What on earth has gone wrong?!

Aaaargh! My 17 month old dd has gone to bed and daytime naps without any problem for months on end and suddenly she's crying and going rigid before I've even got her in her sleeping bag and then cries when I put her down.
This started when we travelled to friends' and family over Christmas and we're not home yet but in a familiar house to her. She's always a touch on the sensitive side sleep pattern-wise to change but never on this scale.
Two questions: what should I do? and will she be OK again when we get home?

Could it be nightmares or night terrors? I've not got a child of this age, but I think it can happen then can't it? The 'going rigid' that you mentioned made me wonder if she was scared of going to sleep.

yes, she suddenly seems frightened of being put down. But we seemed to go through a separation anxiety phase at 11 months where I had to do a lot of cot side singing - thanfully dd seems to be the only person in the world to appreciate my singing voice! But ever since then she's been great and until a few days ago seemed to love going in her cot and babbled happily to herself to sleep.
