First up I shouldn't be complaining really as dd sleeps very well at night now, usually does about 7pm-6.30am(at last...!)
But now we've got into a pretty crappy daytme situation. She used to have a nap at about 9.30-10ish for maybe 45 mins or sometimes would go through til 11-11.30ish. Then another shortish one at 3 or 4.
Now she looks tired at 10 as usual (rubbing eyes, getting clumsy), I take her upstairs, do the usual nap routine (milk, cuddles) and she just cries and won't lie down, so after about 20-30 mins trying I bring her back downstairs and she's all busy again. I'll then try again later on - maybe take her for a walk in the pushchair. For the last week she's been staying awake til 2 or 3pm then finally conking out (with help) for 45mins and no more.
Firstly, I'm sure this can't be good for her - she's staying awake for 6-7-8 hours at a time and then when she finally does go to sleep, hardly getting any decent nap. And then when she wakes up she takes half an hour or so to stop being hugely clingy and a bit weepy, which to me suggests not enough sleep.
Secondly, I'm finding it totally exhausting. 45 mins is maybe long enough to hang out the laundry and do the washing up and then she's awake again. Sometimes she'll nap in the pushchair but that means I'm spending the time walking round with her rather than being able to get anything done. The only time I have for domestic stuff is once she's in bed, and the evening is time I want to be spending with DH, not tidying the house etc.
is this enough nap for a nearly 13 month old? Is there any way to persuade her to sleep longer?
