Hi, My 2.5 year old really seems to be developing a form of insomnia, she goes to bed fine, but generally wakes up at around midnight and is unable to get back to sleep. She wants to and really tries but seems to lie there sucking her thumb with her eyes open or just wriggling to get comfy. She won't be left alone so I tend to bring her into our bed, but she can be 3 -4 hours like it, and is now aboslutely whacked, has been going on for a few weeks now, no specific trigger I can identify, but has anyone got any tips, or been in this situation. We are all now exhausted...thanks!

Have you tried to find out if she had a nightmare? Ours did that and then we reassured about the nightmare so now she settles down again, although she sleeps with her dad as we are waiting to move before we buy her a bed and put her on her own. Her sleeping pattern changed when she refused to sleep in her cot.

As far as I can see you have to break the pattern, perhaps getting her really tired and not allowing a day nap, altering her routine a bit so she is so tired she won't wake up again, anything that will change the pattern and then you can go back to the same routine

Good luck
