When to start using a duvet and pillow?

DS 8mo now (how did that happen!?) and when he naps he goes into our bed and cuddles in to the pillow and duvet. I check on him lots.

He sleeps better all cuddled up but im a little reluctant do let him sleep like that at night as I cant keep a proper eye on him.

When did your dc's start using duvet?

They're not recommended under 12 months. DD started using a duvet aged about 20 months but has only just started using a pillow now she's moved into a bed aged 2.4

Can't remember with my DS1 but he was well over the age of 2. DS3 was 23 months. I've just given him a pillow too, though it's the worlds flattest one!

Not safe before 12 months. DD was 2 and a couple of months when she started asking for a pillow and duvet.

We have just started in the last couple of night putting a pillow in DD's cot, and letting her into our bed with us under the covers (rather than in her grobag on top of the cover) She's 23 months, and I still feel a little bit worried about it when she's in our bed.

just bought DS a quilt for his cot and he is 8 months.
I think it's fine for him as he can crawl, sit up from lying down, pull himself up to stand in his cot etc. Developmentally he is more like a one year old than an 8 month old.
Wouldn't have done the same with DD as she wasn't ready for it until she was a way past one.
These things are always just guidelines, it's up to you what you do with your own child. It's not like they magically change on the eve of their 1st birthday into a child that can sleep under a duvet is it?
As for pillows, I'm not so sure.

DS1 started with pillow and duvet at 2.6 he is now 4 and still has the flattest sainsburys basics pillow you have ever seen!!

DS2 23mo has just gone into big bed but is still very happy in grobag with no pillow, he would be rubbish with a duvet though, he moves too much, in fact when i checked on them both before i went to bed last night, ds2 (in his grobag) had managed to climb the ladder into ds1's cabin bed and was fast asleep on his feet!! i couldnt believe it!!

sorry a lot of waffle basically i would hold off as long as you can, certainly wait until after he is 1
