My son is 16 weeks old and has become a bit of a pain to get to sleep having been very good. I have tried different feeding times, started him on some baby rice, different sleeping positions, tilting the mattress but nothing is working. However, the minute I put him on my bed - soft duvet, pillows etc, he is out like a light.

Apparently it is not safe for babies to have pillows etc so does anyone have any bright ideas???

Started weaning on advice of HV and he has taken to it well.

Would it be really bad (is it dangerous?) of me to put a very flat pillow in his cot?

Far too early for baby rice in my opinion. If you think that it is the bed that knocks him out, why give him baby rice?

Are you in the bed with him when he is put on it?

The HV should NOT be advising you to start baby rice at 16 weeks. It goes against all guidelines they are given re weaning.

baby sheepskin.

I agree much too early to wean.

Apparently in Australia weaning is advised from 4 months, not 6.

Australian information advising weaning from 6 months here and here

Solids before 17 weeks can cause kidney damage. Pillows and duvets can suffocate. 16 weeks = 4 month growth spurt = frequent night waking for milk. Rice = calories he can't use = more frequent waking for milk. (Milk = calories he can use.)
