swaddling - extremely noisy 8 week old

Our 8 week old always has very agitated restless sleeps, and is extremely noisy, grunting yelping groaning etc, as a result we swaddle her with a miracle blanket. I'm concerned that this may affect her motor development, should I be concerned? The swaddle seems to calm her a little and maybe gives us a quieter hour or two.

I tried not swaddling her and putting her in a growbag last night which just didn't work, whilst she slept, her arms were flailing around and she was noisier than ever, bashing herself on the face every 10 mins or so. as a result we got no sleep what so ever.

Is it safe to continue to swaddle at this age?

Anyone any ideas why she is so noisy?

Many Thanks.

oh yes no problem swaddling!!!! I still swaddle my 13 week old dd and will continue to do so. Definately helps calm them and baby will get plenty of stretch time during day to develop physically

AFAIK swaddling is fine for far longer than 8 weeks

I swaddle my 8 week old for sleep too. Itmakes such a difference! IIRC problems with motor development are only potentially an issue if babies are swaddled for long periods when awake (which used to be common).

When you decide it's time to stop swaddling it's easiest to gradually reduce the tightness of the swaddle rather than stopping all at once. It's not such a shock for them that way
