11month old waking every night - pulling up and screaming

Can anyone help? My little one (nearly 11 months old) has just started crawling and pulling herself up and now whenever she wakes in the night - at least once or twice a night - she pulls herself up in her cot and stands and cries hard until we go into her. She will then go to sleep if I hold her until she is sound asleep but if I put her down before then she will scream blue murder. I have to feed her to sleep (I know the books all say not to) when I put her to bed or she gets hysterical - pulling herself up, falling over and banging her head etc. We've tried controlled crying etc but she goes completely nuts and screams so hard that I find it really upsetting and I am sure she does too. I feel completely knackered, especially since I find it really hard to get back to sleep after being woken at 2am, 3am etc every night (times vary - there doesn't seem to be a pattern). Any tips on how to get her to sleep better?

vickers I think your dd has reached the age of having little nightmares. The fact that she is going back to sleep in your arms suggests this to me as she is still tired. Does she have a nightlight or dimmer switch?
I could be wrong but I remember my children being like this around that age.

Vickers, I am having much the same problem, my dd also has recently started crawling and has now adopted the sleeping on her front position which means she moves around alot more, gets stuck in the cot bars and wakes up twice and hour sometimes, cries and cries sits up and also will go back to sleep if re arranged or held then put back in the cot, its a nightmare! Going to bed which was once a dream is now terrible as each time I put her down she gets up! I can't give any advice but to say you are not alone
