Is it ok for dd (17 weeks) to sleep on her front?

She has been rolling over for a few weeks now, and sleeps in the "faceplant" position - funnily enough the same position that ds favours. I've tried using a Grobag to stop her rolling over but she just gets tangled up and it's too hot at the moment to use a sleeping bag anyway!

She's asleep in the sofa at the moment on her front - when i put her on her back she gets very cross and screams! But I am extremely paranoid about SIDS.

can she roll back alestorm?

I thought the rule of thumb was if they can roll over themselves and put themselves in that position, its fine.

BabyG has only just started sleeping on his front at 8 months, but I'm not worried as he's doing it himself IYKWIM.

She can when she's awake, but not when she's asleep IYSWIM. She can move her head about though.

Ds didn't start sleeping on his front till he was over 1 - when we started getting him to self-settle. Dd has always self-settled and will actually cry to be put down! She doesn't seem to like nursing to sleep, weird child.

I think that you have to decide for yourself. If you are asking for experiences, DD would never sleep any other way. I had no issues with DS, but she always wanted to be on her front. She wouldn't be cradled when you cuddled her, she wanted to be up on your chest, and when she went down to sleep, if you didn't put her on her front she woke up every 10 minutes screaming. I tried to swaddle her (I have never seen a baby so angry!) but it didn't work so we reverted to front sleeping. I was petrified about SIDS but she needed to sleep and she is now 7 months and still goes on her front (although she can get there herself now).

Her head control and neck strength was always good so I wasn't too worried about her suffocating, but it's worrying none the less.
