8 mth messing around at 3.30am - help!

My DD is 8mo today. Sleep is not her strongest point but she has got gradually better. Last week she actually slept through twice from 7.30 to 6am so I know she can do it. However, other nights she still wakes about 11pm for food (now getting 5oz water mixed with 4oz milk powder).

For the past few nights she has woke about 3am ish and is reluctant to go back to sleep for about an hour. For the past 2 nights after an hour of battling I've given up and put her in our bed which I know is bad but I figure at least I get some sleep.

I only go into her if she cries. If she is chatting I let her get on with it but last night for example she worked herself over a period of about 10 minutes into a real tizz.

Any suggestions please? I would love a good nights sleep! [DD is on 3 meals per day but we are having anti-lump issues so sometimes the amount she eats isn't massive. Then again, she's never really been a big eater].

or a developmental phase, my lo has done this a few times recently, wakes up to practice crawling in the middle of the night - their little brains are not great at switching off when they are in the middle of acquiring a new skill
