co-sleeping - what to cover DD with & other questions...

Ok, so it seems that I've become a part time co-sleeper. DD (13 weeks) has started waking every hour and a half to feed at night (she seems genuinely hungry most of the time so I am happy to go with this).

She sleeps well in her moses basket for the start of the night but after about 11pm I can be up out of bed feeding/settling her upto 5 or 6 times.

So, I've been putting her in bed with me after her longest stretch of sleep. Last night I lay on my side, curled around her and she sort on snuggled her head into my underarm (delightful, I know!). I fed her at 5-ish and she felt a bit sweaty (damp hair & back of neck).

I don't want her to overheat but at the same time, I was freezing trying to keep the duvet away from her. So this morning I have some questions I hope some of you can help with:

  • She sleeps in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag in her basket - is this too much for bed?
  • Should I move her further down the bed so that my arm isn't around her head?
  • How on earth do I stay warm but with easy access for BF? I'm usually a duvet-pulled-up-to-the-neck kind of sleeper.
  • Can I sleep in any other position than my side?

hi lulululabelle - last night was horrid (awake 2-4am after a nappy change) so I'm hoping that trying a larger size nappy that won't need changing will let us get through tonight.

we have a hammock; I've put her in it twice but she seemed to hate it.

Oh phdlife, you must be exhausted. Did you put dd into her hammock awake? My dd wouldn't go in it awake, well she doesn't go in anything awake. We either rock or feed her to sleep. When she woke in the hammock she cried but I think its because she wasn't used to it. I bounced her and she fell back asleep. I think it will take her a little while to get used to it but I'm going to stick with it. You know, last night was the first time I have considered doing anything other than feeding her when she wakes.

The last couple of times I've needed to change a nappy at night I've fed DD afterwards to get her back to sleep. If that does work then I can sometimes put her in her basket awake and just turn the light off and she talks to herself for a bit and falls back asleep. This isn't always the case though.
