Cot Gymnastics.....another phase?

DD is 7 months old and very happy contented baby. Over the past couple of weeks though she has been waking any time between 4am and 6am, tossing and turning in her cot, getting wedged sideways, flipping over from back to front and back again, shouting and talking to herself and not settling back to sleep properly although she does seem to doze on and off for a few minutes here and there. Don't want to feed her at that time as she has been managing without night feeds for 6 weeks now but we are in and out of her room trying to get her comfortable until a reasonable time when we give up and get ger up.
Is this a phase or do we have a very active baby on our hands?
Any ideas on how to deal with it or do we just put up with it?!!

Hi, my DS has started doing this - he's nine months and trying very hard to crawl. We have started to put a black-out over the window as we thought perhaps the light mornings were waking him up and it does seem to have helped a bit. He still seems to wedge himself into all sorts of alkward posisions though! We get up almost every morning somewhere between 4-6am to put the dummy back in an put him back under the covers. I really hope that its a phase!

Hi there. Althought mine are a bit older now, I so remember this phase. My life changed completely when I bought a Grobag (baby sleeping bag). It doesn't matter how much gym he did, the covers never came off, so I didn't worry, and he slept so much better. If you're using blankets, I really suggest that you try a grobag instead. go to www.grobag.com and you can buy them from lots of places. Hope this helps.

Thanks Debbbs, she is already in a gro bag though! They are great in that we don't have to worry about her getting cold. This morning she woke at 5am, shouted and flung herself about until 6.30, then slept til 7.15! Oh well, s'pose that's not too bad!

I expect its just a phase. Fingers crossed. It is getting lighter so much earlier now, and that can't help. Blackout definitely helps, and some safe toys in the cot so that if she wakes up she has something to do instead of waking you up? My little one's just moved to a bed, but until recently I used to put a toy or board book in his cot when I went to bed, so he found something unexpected in there in the morning, and sometimes that would keep him occupied. But, sorry that's probably more helpful when they're older. I'm sure its just a phase and the light mornings. We live in the countryside, and the birds make a huge noise at 4 in the morning at the moment. Could it be noises as well as light? Also, when it happens, suggest you be really really boring and try not to feed her unless you are desparate, because she'll realise she's onto a good thing! Good luck. Will keep my fingers crossed for you tonight....
