HI all,

After a pretty wretched few months culminating in DD waking EVERY 45 minutes through the night at Christmas, we went through sleep training using the pick up/put down method (although DD was 13 months, so it was more like jump up/lie her back down).

Things improved after about a week, with night wakings reduced, and, over time, the amount of time it took her to settle herself at bedtime dropped from 2 hours, to about 5 minutes.

Weve since had about 3 months of glorious wonderful sleep, with DD only waking on average once a night, and then only needing a brief back rub to go back to sleep by herself.

Even a long holiday a couple of weeks ago, when she was sleeping in a different place every three nights for a fortnight didn't seem to disrupt things. I thought we were out of the woods.

Home and dry.

Ho HO.

The last few night's we're right back at square one. We've had an hour or more of hysterical screaming at bedtime. We've had multiple nighttime wakings. We've had 2 hour screamathons in the wee small hours... etc.

I can't believe I'm BACK here again. She's 17 months FFS and i thought we had it sorted!?

She's not particularly teething, i don't think (and anyway, we tried calpol/alprofen and it made no difference). She doesn't appear to be unwell, and is bright and happy during the day (I, on the other hand am knackered and grumpy and a bit bloody fed up).

She's suddenly talking a lot more, and has developed a bizarre fixation with the Hoover, but that doesn't have anything to do with anything, does it?

Anyone had anything like this at this age? Any pearls of wisdom.

We've just had a 1 1/2 hour bedtime session of cot arobatics, I just can't face more months of bedtime battles and broken nights when I thought we were FINALLY past all that...

HELP?? Please??!!

Oh god, I have such sympathy and wish I had an answer for you! We are going through similar with our 19mth old DD. She wakes at 1am every night and won't go back to sleep until about 5am. We have tried every sleep method I can think of. I can't believe she can stay awake so long! Needless to say she is incredibly grumpy during the day (as is her mum!).
