night terrors?

DS has always grizzled and moaned and occasionally cried out in his sleep - he's even screamed once or twice. Just now he started wailing, thought he'd lost his dummy so went in and he was wailing through his dummy eyes tight shut and really sobbing. I stroked his head and spoke to him softly and he eventually calmed down, never waking up during any of this.

I've always had vivid dreams, which are rarely nice and have nightmares prob 4 nights out of 5 (when I remember my dreams), I have 4 recurring nightmares that come back each year too, two of which I remember having really young (about 2 or 3)...am really worried DS has inherited this, I know there's nothing I can do but hearing him so lonely and sad and upset in his sleep was horrible...could it have been a night terror?

How old is he? Could have been yes, but having them yourself you know that. Ds has some really bad night terrors and I hate it but not much you can do except gradually work out what calms them best.
