2.5 year old DD, First time in big bed. Help!

We talked about it for ages.
Little girls in cots get dummies, big girls in big beds don't. So, as soon as she was ready, she could go into the big bed (it is in her room, always has been. We read her story there)Yesterday she handed over the dummy, got her story, but chickened out and went back into the cot.
Today we talked about it and she agreed she would go in the big bed and the dummy, and its bag, would go in the loft.
The cot was stripped and the matress upended.
All day we talked about hw fab it as she was going in the big bed in her big girls nightie.
All went well, story read, night night mummy and daddy.
Now floods cos of the lack of dummy.
I don't think I should back down, should I????

She is such a good girl, I hate to upset her, but the choice was left to her. I never pushed into any of it because hse has done most things of her own accord. Weaning, potty training etc.

DH is an old softy and is with her now, which I think is a mistake.

Advice, PLeeease

She will have forgotten about it all in a few nights
It is so hard though when they are crying

Just been up. DH couldn't calm her. Poor DH just isn't equipt (sp?) for that kind of thing
I told her all she had to do was cuddle monkey. If sad, cuddle another. If extra sad, throw in a teddy, but that I didn't think she could ever be that sad!
Back down now for a few mins and all is quiet.
The fact that the matress was upended seemed to have done the trick. I told her she just couldn't get in it cos, look....

She tried for DSs dummy. saying that he was quiet and happy (he does'nt need his when he is happy, you see) So she thought she could nab his. I asked her to repeat it, cos I hadn't quite caught what she said. She wouldn'tWee devil!
