How do you actually go about moving DC from cot to bed? Does the cot just vanish one day? Do you have them next to one another for a while? <clueless>

We just went for it.

The cot went, the bed arrived. A few noisy evenings while they adjusted to being able to get out of bed then all was well.

It did help I think that we have high door handles so although both dc's got out of bed when they made the switch, neither was able to get out of the room.

DD can't reach the door handles either (and there's a gate on her door anyway) so I suppose that's a good start!

we talked about 'big bed' for a few weeks before - showed him it folded up against wall. Went to choose big bed duvet etc... Then one day just did the swap. All fine.

Also good to show another child's proper bed (a friend or relative with slightly older child) and talk abut it.

we just got rid of the cot and replaced it with the bed

both Dc settled within a couple of days

Tell them about the big bed and how big they are. Get DC involved in buying the bed, bedding etc.
Get single bed in put on a side protector (so he/she does,nt fal out in the night)
If DC keeps getting out you keep putting them back in can happen 20 times a night but they will get the hang in no time.

Were doing it with DD3 at the mo and she is in and out at least 20 times a night. DD1 was never like that, in to bed and that was it. How old is your DC?

DD is very young to be moving to a bed (16 months now, probably 17 when we move her) but I need her cot for DC2 and I want to make the move well before the birth so she doesn't realise think her bed is being stolen for the baby.

We've ordered a junior bed and I've talked to her about big girls beds but TBH she's too young to get it really. She did very much enjoy 'choosing' her bed though and was thrilled to be able to climb on and off, although I'm not entirely sure she gathered that it was a bed and not some special kind of sofa

I'll read up on RR, it's pretty much just putting them straight back to bed whilst saying little more than 'it's bedtime now' (or similar), isn't it?

Yip
I just use night night all the time and it works..
16 months is early but what can you do you need the cot. In the creche my girls went to they would have all the kids in beds by 2 years, it really helped us here getting DD1 and 2 into the bed.
Best of luck
