Help, 23 wk old started sleeping on his front

Is it normal? Is it safe?

DS just started turning to his front this week. At first he did not like it when he turned during his sleep and started crying right away, so we had to get up many times at night to turn him back. But the last two nights he quite happily slept on his front.

He wakes up every time I try to turn him back, so it's easier just to let him sleep on the front. I am not sure how long this stage will last before he learns to turn back on his own.

Very normal, DS started doing it around the same age. I spent about two nights getting up every half an hour to flip him over, then gave up and left him to it. Now at 2 he still likes to sleep on his front with his bum in the air!

DS (16 weeks) decided last week to sleep on his front. I'm just going to let it go; our mothers were all instructed to let us sleep on our fronts and we're all still here (just).

I think the advice is that if they can roll onto their fronts by themselves it is ok to leave them there. Even if they can't roll back I assume they have enough neck control to lift their heads off the mattress if they need to. I think the main thing is not to them to sleep on their fronts.
FWIW, both of my dc slept on their fronts from an early age. I used to turn dd back (did this for months!) but with ds I gave up quickly and left him to it.
