I have a seven month old, who, after a terrible visit back home at Christmas where she woke every hour or so at night, has been successfully got into a good night time routine thanks to controlled crying...or so I thought.

In the early days of controlled crying when we started in January she was sleeping on average eight hours solid (one blissful night 11!). Now she's still going down well but then only lasts on average three hours - about when I'm turning in myself. Then if I ignore it's a full hour long cry cycle and if I pick up and feed it's crying as soon as I've put her back down even if she falls asleep on the breast. In both cases she'll only go on to sleep at best another three hours. Sooner rather than later I normally just give in and get her in bed with me.

What can I do to get back to the eight + hours we were getting?

Separation anxiety might be messing with CC.

Have you tried watering CC down a little,
i.e. stay next to her cot for most of the time,
leave for very short periods in-between.
Almost CC in reverse iykwim.

That's just one angle to consider.

What about the crying itself?
Do you find her crying recently is different
from her crying the first time you did CC?

She does go to sleep most nights and for daytime naps without any crying now but just doesn't stay awake for long at night. However, when we do go in to comfort or stay by the cot it has always just seemed to make her worse.
