Straw poll: WWYD with DC who won't settle for DP?

DD is 8 mths, won't settle for DP in evening, and wakes hourly (not for feeds, just cuddles, sometimes resettles in 10 secs). Its driving me mad - can't even watch tv progs longer than 30 mins, let alone go out. But if I'm in the house I can't hear her crying and not go to her. She screams absolutely hysterically if DP goes (longest I lasted was about 30 mins).

I'm going a bit mad with sleep deprivation so want to get a vote on what to do:

a) go out for a night out, accept DD may cry and be very upset, but know that she will be with DP who she loves (at least in the daytime).

b) wait until she will settle for DP (for DS this was prob when he was about 2 ).

c) a miracle solution to be announced by an all-knowing MNetter!

Agree with Twims, go out, but take your movile with you, so if it gets too much for your DP then you can come back.

Ok looks like 2 for a) so far! If I go that way I may have to start a thread asking on normal socialising skills, its been that long since I've been out !

Go out... in fact, book yourself into an hotel for a week!

Oh god, a hotel for a week! The idea of that bliss! Its just never going to happen... . I'll settle for a stretch of 4 hrs sleep!

Oh I do remember that phase. I used to fantasise about breaking an arm or something non life threatening so I could go to hospital and get a nights sleep.

DS was like this at same age, I used to just go out.

I did at least expect one 'your baby's only little, it won't last forever and she will be devastated' comment to encourage my guilt.
Thanks everyone for the reassurance, I think I'm going to do a few mini-outings and see whether its as bad as expected.

A. Go out. Do not take your mobile with you. FFS if your DP can't cope with a whingey baby for a few hours he needs to be taken out and shot

DS2 was bf and would not take a bottle. I used to leave him with DH and a bottle and let them get on with it. I wouldn't have left him with someone other than DH though, because that wouldn't have been fair on the sitter.

Oh, DS2 is now nearly 8 and doesn't seem to have been scarred by this ;)

8 months it's probably separation anxiety. If you go out, your baby will be better off going to sleep AFTER waving you goodbye. Going to sleep while you're there and then waking to find you gone is distressing IYSWIM. Babes going through SA are usually FINE once they realise that their mum is not in the building. That's not to say it would be easy for your DP, but the worst that can happen is your baby cries until he pukes and hyperventilates, then passes out with exhaustion. It sounds ghastly, but it's what my DS 2 tomorrow often does if I'm in the shower when he wakes up!

Just wanted to say thanks - I did it, twice ! DP put her to bed without much stress, and coped with the wakings. Okay so she was awake when I got back (and watching Star Wars ) but I got out! Thank you everyone who said go
