just use a large cotton sheet or thin blanket to swaddle

you can then layer him up with addtional blankets to keep him warm

I put my DT'S into baby sleeping bags at that age for the same reason and it woked a treat. Even during the day for naps. I got mine in Mothercare, and have just bought the next size up for them now. They start at a size suitable from birth.

with the sleeping bags did you not find hands round the face a problem? my ds does like to do this so i didnt know if they would work

mothersmilk I had this exact same problem last week as DS was starting to wake himself up by coming out of the swaddle. This was my thread.

I started to gradually de-swaddle him by leaving one arm out and putting him in a grobag too (with just a babygro and no vest to prevent overheating), I found that because he had one to wave about the other arm stayed in. He didn't seem to have too much problem with hands around the face. We decided to try it at his "best" sleep time (7pm-10.30pm when he never wakes up) to see if it made a difference and it didn't.

Thanks to me leaving a bag of stuff at my parents at the weekend which included the swaddle we have now moved fully to grobags and it isn't affecting his sleep.

Good luck!

We have a 7 week old and have recently had to start swaddling him as he hits himself and has just started waking and sucking his hands!!! Bless very cute but not good at 3am! We are using a swaddleeaze its like a growbag/sleepbag but has a velcrow arm strap which is a godsend to keep his arms at bay!

They go up to quite a large size: www.babysleepshop.com/acatalog/Swaddleaze1.html

I am hoping the little munchkin will grow out of it though!!!

I;'ve had this problem of DS growing out of swaddling blankets too.

I use a sheet and a blanket to swaddle him.

I put the blanket on the bed with the sheet on top - both lengthways not diagonally.

I lie him on the sheet. Each corner goes over his arm them down by his side and under his back. Repeat on both sides. That keeps his arms tucked in. (similar to Mothercare's miracle blanket, which I used before but he's not too big for)

His tummy is uncovered then, so I use the blanket to wrap him up tight and keep him warm.

He hasn't managed to get out of it yet.

Hope that makes some sense!!

'but he's GOT too big for'

urrghh hugs to you. if you don't have luck with weaning him by
1 leaving one arm out at a time, just for naps to start with.
2 trying a sleep sack for naps first
3 loosening the wrap for naps etc.

then something that might work is the Peke Moe (you can google it) it was great for our boy! hugs to you and hope he sleeps better soon!! xx
