Me and Oh always have trouble getting our DD to sleep at night. The only way she'll go to sleep is to fall asleep clutching her last bottle. This is ok(ish) for now as she has no teeth to ruin but I dont want her teeth to come in wonky nor do I want them to disintegrate before my eyes so..... how can I teach her to settle herself at night? She sleeps through once she's asleep but its getting there that I need help with.

We've tried a bedtime routine but it just hasn't worked for us.

We can't bathe her every night as it upsets her eczema.
She won't sit quietly while we read a story - she'd rather sit up and try to rip the pages.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

THANKS
LS

Are you talking about my dd? Same age, exactly the same issues. She wakes up crying and will only settle with a bottle in her mouth, even if she has drained it. Won't have water in it and won't use a dummy. DD has four teeth so it's a bit pressing... Bath/stories/lights out etc no good, just bottle.

Its probably terrible advice and I will get shouted down but I would let this happen until they are older and can find comfort in something else.

pam - Seriously? You think its ok to let her carry on? I'm just worried that as she gets older it'll get worse cos she'll have more of a mind of her own

Ochaye - Its nice to hear that i'm not alone in this. She normally sleeps through fine (although the last 3 nights she hasn't) its just getting her to sleep.
