Do I need new bedding for DC2?

I know I need to get a new crib mattress for DC2 to lower the risk of cot death, but does anyone know if this means I need new sheets, etc, as well? Can't find any info on the FSIDS website...

I used the same matress and covers for both my dd's and they are both fine. The matress I used had a removable washable cover and I steamed the matress and put it outside to dry.

You don't need new bedding, just a new mattress.

sheets are fine as are blankets. Just make sure they're well washed.

I re-used a mattress as well as it had a removable washable cover and the rest was pvc so could be washed too. I re-used sheets, covers and grobags too.

i used same mattress for both dc's, same sheets, blankets.

I emailed SIDS charity and they said as long as you have a waterproof mattress cover you don't need to buy a new mattress. No problem reusing bedding.

What's the logic behind needing a new mattress, then?
