my 4.5 month old perfers to be swaddled otherwise he scratches his face to pieces so what iv done since about 3 months is to put hiom in a grobag and then with a lightweight non-folded sheet( it's long and thin so it doesn't go over his legs)i then tuck him in firmly with his arms by his side. It doesn't completely stop him from getting his arms out but it does help him to sleep longer. Yhey say no swaddling at this age as the risks of overheating are more. i just make sure i use a 1.0 tog grobag so he doesnt get too hot.

Swaddle one arm, then move to swaddling with both arms out (using light tog grobag) and then eventally just tuck in under sheet in grobag.

definitely just do what suits your baby best. I know of HEAPS of babies swaddled till 1yr old! If you are wanting to transition her, do like dinkystinky said, or try a loooser wrap to start with. I used a Peke Moe (you can google it) and it was great for transitioning our boy. All the best!

The Austrailian midwifery service "settling your baby" booklet says you are fine to swaddle into 1 year old.

a lot of babies are swaddled after 4 months so probably fine to carry on if you want to although I stopped because of the advice not to (but mainly because I was taking baby to australia and I thought it would be too hot - but actually would have been fine!)...anyway I tried the one arm swaddling but ended up just going cold turkey in the end as he just kept struggling out of the one arm one and waking himself up. After 4 days of lots of waking he got used to a grobag. This was when he was 8 weeks old.
