Breaking a 3 to 4 hour cycle.

My DD has recently taken to waking every 3 to 4 hours (usually 3) This has been for about a month now!!

Weve tried experimenting with bedtime and that makes no differnce.

Its not as if shes super hungry when she wakes as she only takes a few ozs, It almost become a habit.

The most annoying thing is she often decides to stay awake after waking. This can be up to 2 hours of giggling,"chating" and kicking about!

Any ideas of how to break this cycle??

Just want to say I sympathize, 4 months seems to be a notorious non-sleep age for babies My baby wakes every hour or so at the moment (also 4 months) so in my book waking every 3-4 hours is paradise.... . Just kidding; I do know it's very hard, so hopefully others will have some good advice for you (and for me).

Could be part of the 4 month sleep regression. Ours started at 3 months and lasted about 6 weeks (up every hour and a half - YAWN) but then it calmed down again to just getting up once a night. We didn't do anything, he just calmed down all of a sudden. Regarding the staying awake thing, we've just been through that and DS is 6 months and we had to do controlled crying to get through it (i have a long thread going about that!), however your DD is way too young for that. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you can do about the long wakes on such a young baby, but just wanted to let you know about the sleep regression and that it does usually pass. If you can manage to soldier on for a couple more weeks she should come through it!
