bedding for a toddler in a cotbed - grobag not enough!

Ds has always slept well in grobags, he has a 1 tog atm but it´s getting cooler at night so he is rugged up with a couple of extra blankets. i´ve got a 2.5tog on its way to me and that will be ok on its own for a while but last winter there did come a point where even that plus a couple of good thick blankets wasn´t keeping him toasty enough.

We live in spain so not as cold yet as uk but it does get cold and we don´t have central heating so need to make sure he´ll be warm.

Tried a duvet the other night but while he stays toasty for a while he then wakes up at 3am having wiggled his way out of the top and laying there with nothing covering him.

Do you grobag users find the 2.5tog on it´s own is fine even in the depth of winter? Anyone found a solution?

On the coldest nights I used to put dd in a long sleeved vest, sleepsuit, grobag, then 2 blankets on top. The blankets didn't stay put all night though.

I found that DD was warm enough in a 2.5 grobag even in the winter. We live in the UK and do not have the heating on at night. She wore long legged and sleeved pjs and a vest. Are you sure he is not warm enough?

Yes, I´m sure he´s waking because he´s cold. He actually feels cold (and not just hands and feet but down his back too) when he is waking in the wee hours although he is fine and toasty when we go to bed.

The thing is that not only do we not have heating, the houses here (or the ones I live in!) are not built for cold weather, there are drafts all over the shop and tile floors. We do try, we have thick lined curtains and draft excluders and rugs but it´s still colder than a typical uk house. sadly.

But still. it does perplex me as plenty of people seem to get by with the 2.5 grobag, pjs and maybe a blanket. It does seem surprisingly difficult to keep him warm compared to what I´ve heard from others.

A free standing heater on low

yeah, the heater is on tonight.. see how we fare with that.. just wondered as again, last winter we left it on for him all night on low yet all the uk parents i know turn the heating off at night. i guess the houses in the uk generally retain heat better..

I turn heating off at night but keep free standing heater for dss room.

aaaahhhh.. ok I see. so when they´ve all said they turn the heating off it might be in a "my 3 week old sleeps all night" kind of way?

Can anyone recommend good makes of warm sleepsuits? I liked tesco ones my sister got me for wear and tear but all cotton, no fleecy ones. And when i just checked a couple of sites all the fleecy (polyester) ones say "not for sleeping in"??

How about one of those sleeping bags for children rather than a duvet? Hang on and I'll see if I can find a link...

He's 18mo. Those fleecy pjs look lovely and snuggly but - see- they say not for sleeping in ?? I don't understand why, too hot?

My 14mth sleeps in them over her pj's as she wont keep sheets/duvet on as she is a fidget.

Also her room is quite cold normal between 18-20 degrees.

Hi Maveta - we've just ordered a snugglesac for DS1 - they are 5.2 tog compared to a 2.5 tog grobag so should definitely keep him much warmer.
