Hi, my first daughter never slept in a cot and we put her in her own bed as soon as she was walking, like you I was worried but she soon got the hang of it. We have a routine of dinner, bath, up to bed and 2 or 3 stories then we put down a light mattress alongside her bed (it was a full size single) so any time she fell out (she did!) it wouldn't hurt her...also put a small plug in light as she was scared, kept the stairgate shut all night too...hope this is of some use to you, good luck!

If she can jump out why are you still "thinking" about it? It is DANGEROUS! A trip to the emergency room with broken bones (hopefully not from landing on her head) will really ruin your and DH's day.

I've always used a cotside, although some DC's climb this, mine always stayed put,and didn't work out that they could crawl down the end of the bed to get out until much later.I always left the "gap" at the bottom until they were older, then slid the cotside down the bed later.

When DD1 was free of nappies at night i put the potty next to her bed so she didn't have to leave her room.

I think some DC's do keep getting up,but with consistent "Rapid return" technique over a few nights, they soon grow out of the Novelty of being able to do this.

I put dd in a cotbed when she turned 2 and she loves it. Never had any problems with night time, or nap time. Its also nice to be able to curl up on the bed with her and read her stories! We made a big deal out of it and called it her big girl bed and got some lovely new bedding which she chose herself. Obviously she does fall out occasionally but as its so low to the floor she doesn't hurt herself. She never tries to get out in the morning and will just yell for us when she wakes up!
