3am 4am ready for day

Has anyone else had this problem? my 18mth DD sometimes wakes at this time and is ready for day. Nothing I do will get her back to sleep. Have tried CC for hours on end, sometimes she will drop off again for 20 mins but that is it. Just when I am coming to the end of my tether she stops it again and has a week of being good (well always up at 6am but that is manageable). If it was permanent then maybe a sedative to break the cycle would work, but as it is sporadic I don't know what to do. At this age CC is just a battle of wills I think. Have managed it successfully in the past but she's just too determined now.

Presumably she just gets out of bed then does she? Does she come in you you or just cry? We moved DD into a bed thinking this may help, but it was worse as she just got up all the time so she's back in cot now. Maybe its a phase.........

5am this morning - we felt like we'd been given a lie in! Serously though I am good for nothing all day getting up so early. If it was 5 every day I could probably cope but 3 and 4 is just middle of night to me

not sure what to suggest pipsy1. My DTs seem to get up at 6.30am which I think is too early, but it may be because DS1 has to be up then to get ready for school (or rugby on the weekends). It's a right royal pain. I keep feeding them and putting them back to bed, but to be honest they just ignore me and get up anyway. DT1 kept trying to get up even earlier, but I wouldn't let her. I just fed her back to sleep. I know that she doesn't need the feed, but if it helps her to sleep it means that I sleep and that's the most important thing. Not sure what to suggest, just letting you know that you have company. One good thing about the weekend though, my older kids are now up so I'm about to go back to bed once DS1 has left.

Bloody hell, it's just torture isn't it pipsy? Dp did cc with dd last night and I'm doing it tonight. I don't know what else to suggest beyond cutting day time sleep if there's any room for that? As you know I'm in the same boat, poor you.

How weird - I've just been reading oldish threads about early waking and had read your earlier one pipsy. Another useless person here I'm afraid, just sympathies. My ds is only 9 months but he is another early riser (although when he wakes up at 3am must admit we can get him back to sleep for a bit) and today survived until an almost late 5:20am!

It really does help to know there are others out there. Not that I'd wish it on anyone but nice to whinge together!
WWW had thought about cutting daytime sleep, trouble is its a viscious circle because if she's up that early then she cannot possibly manage a whole day without sleep. Think I will try to cut it back bit by bit and see what happens. I just expected that at 18mths I'd be getting a bit more sleep that this! Putting me off having no 2. Though we are our own worst enemies, waking up really early ourselves and almost waiting to see what time she'll wake. My turn for a lie in today and I woke constantly from midnight then got up at 6 anyway! Tonight I'm taking a sleeping pill and going in spare room. Will wait to be awoken with brekkie in bed for mothers day. What a treat - though I guess it may be at 5.30am - not such a treat!

Pipsy, dd1 was such a brilliant sleeper that no 2 has come as a real shock. Hopefully your experience will be the reverse - so bad this time round that the second might be a pleasant surprise, or not much worse anyway!

My ds is now happily snoring away on the sofa next to me. Grrrr.

Isn't it just so annoying when they do that. Feel like waking them up to show them what its like! But then they are just soooo cute when they are all snuggled up asleep that you forgive them anything. When/if we have some energy then we will pray that no 2 has his/her Daddys sleep gene (ie all day and all night if poss!)
Going to let DD have a short sleep this morning then no more and see how we get on. Wish there was a magic answer to this
