Changing nappy during the night?

I would like to know if and how often you change a nappy during the night?
Clearly if LO sleeps through, then nappy is not changed, but other than that, do you change once? Every time they feed?

DS, 21wks, wakes at least three times, usually I change him after the 2/3o'clock feed, and he usually stays a bit fretful after that. Last night I decided not to and see what happen and he needed changing at the 4 o'clock, was clearly uncomfortable, whereas he had not been earlier. He screamed blue murder, but it did need changing.
If I got an absorbent enough comfy nappy, would it be awful of me not to change him, even though he's still waking?

(This is wet nappies only, poopy ones changed straight away of course)

Are you using disposables or cloth?

I never changed during the night unless pooey. It never seemed to bother them.

I have never changed dd at night, no fear -she would just wake up and want to play. she's never had nappy rash either (10mo).

I usually changed DD when she woke up for a feed.
I changed her before the feed so that she could go straight down after falling asleep at the breast.
I use cloth nappies so I felt it was more important.
Now she sleeps through the night, so she doesn't get changed until morning.

I never changed at night unless it was pooey, but DS was changed at 10.30pm at his last feed. If you use disposables you could always go up a size for the night nappy, so it's a bit more absorbant.

I was luck y ds only woke once during the night for a feed..

i used to have a quick feel and see how full it seemed, if it was heavy i would change it before feeding him ... if it seemed hardly wet then I left him alone

We're using cloth, and even the bamboo squares aren't absorbent enough, but we don't boost or use a liner at the minute. Have posted in the nappies board for suggestions.

So as long as I don't think he'll get sore then we should be ok by the sounds of things. Thank you!

I don't think he'll get sore. What about a square in a jo fold with a booster? Add a fleece liner and that should keep his skin dry

I change DD if she wakes, but sometimes its the wrong thing to do as she wees just as the nappy is off! Its pot luck, but if I leave the nappy too long it will leak.

I used to change DS at the 3am feed, but stopped as it woke him up.... I change him about midnight and he goes through until about 7am. He has a fleece booster and a bamboo one with either a bamboo diaper or tots bots flexitot.

My DD (16.5 weeks) seems to always poo in the night, usually when I feed her, so I change her nappy half way through... I was not changing her if she hadn't pooped but by morning her nappy was so wet if she pooped in the early hours there would be no absorbancy left to hold any of it... So now I always change her but I do it on the bed in a very dim light and it takes me seconds

My 7 weeks old son wakes up between 1 and 4 times a night and I nurse, potty and change him every time. Why would you leave a baby in a wet or dirty nappy just because it is night ? (genuine question)

I changed DD nappy every time she woke for a feed in the first few weeks (more to wake her up so she could contuinue feeding). Now 23 weeks and wakes once for a feed. I just feed her and go straight back to sleep. Unless I can smell poo that is.

Even sitting in a wee filled nappy all night must be smelly and uncomfortable ? I suppose not if the child concerns sleeps through it.

I feel that changing his nappy wakes him quite a bit, so am hunting for an absorbent nappy that won't feel too wet, and avoid changing at night. If he was a good sleeper, I would continue to change him once in the night, but getting him to sleep is my main priority at present. Starting the day at 3.30 is not conducive to my well-being!

Changing the nappy does wake them up more.

Extra boosting, wool covers and fleece liners are what you want.

Babies did you really name your son highchair?

We use Huggies Super Dry. The package says 12 hrs and we stretch it to 13: from bath at 6pm until waking at 7am. That includes a dream-feed at 11pm and 4am feed. (Always meant to switch to cloth when things got easier, but they haven't yet...)

i use bamboo with fleece and bamboo boosters.

i change ds (13 months)when i go to bed around midnight - he never wakes, and then again if he wakes for a feed, around 4am, but before I feed him as the bf makes him sleepy

Of course I did, do you like it LOL

I think disposables now are so absorbent, that they don't necessitate changing unless they are full enough.

My DS isn't bothered either and doesn't get a rash (I would change much more frequently in the night if he got a rash), so I'd rather he stayed sleepy!

Plus, to an extent, I feel they have to get used to the feel of a nappy overnight, unless you are intending to change them through the night until they are potty trained?

I used kushies during the day (DS too big now), but always put DS down with pampers baby dry (M/W tip) as DS is heavy drinker and re-usables just could not cope.

Nappy nowgoes 6.30pm to 7.30/8am and he is v. rarely wet on his skin when we get him up and we have never had leaks (once we realised how important it is certain bits aren't tucked in ).
