6 month old barely naps during the day

DS has never been a great sleeper, especially during the day, but at the moment only have two or three 10 or 20 minute naps per day. He used to sleep in the buggy for as long as I kept walking but now wakes after 20 mins or so, same if I lay down and nap with him which never used to fail to get him off. As a result, by 4pm he is completely overtired and really bad tempered and fractious. Any ideas how to get him off? Also have trouble at night time but that's a whole other story

Put him down to sleep (in cot, or wherever he normally sleeps - or doesn't ) before he gets tired. I find with ds2 that if he is overtired he is much harder to settle.

How do you feel abut dummies? It might help settle him?

I know they're all different but ,fwiw, ds2 (7 months, but still doing the same as at 6 months) naps from 8-30-9am (in pushchair), 12-1.30ish (in cot), 4.15-4.30/45 (in cot). I try to put him in bed before those times but he really is a creature of habit.
