I stopped my dd 2 mths after her 2nd birthday as it was taking until 10pm for her to drop off in the evenings- even if she only had half an hour in the afternoon...

our nearly three year old is just asleep on the sofa; she was getting really narky and rubbing-the-eyes business... I think I'll end up paying for this later!

my sisters lo takes himself for a sleep on the couch most days and he will be 4 in December. Her other ds did this till school age too. My dd stopped her nap just before she turned 3 but for a few months before that I would take her out in the car to get her to sleep and then transfer her into her buggy in the hall. I gave up the driving business when I had ds so her naps stopped from then.

they should stop napping when it affects them getting off to sleep at night.

otherwise, you are gaily flinging away the daily opportunity for peace and quiet!!

at those with children who sleep, dd2 is 2.4 and stopped napping at 2

chloemegjess · 28/09/2008 20:08

I agree with Noble - just stop them when it starts messing up night time sleep!

My DS1 napped till he was 4!!! I am now paying for that with DS2 2.5 who is now refusing to nap in his cot. So we tried a new routine with him napping on sofa which worked for a few days but he has started not wanting to go down at night and is getting up at 5.30a.m .

So .... as much as I LOVE naptime I think it's gotta stop as I love evenings too

DS1 napped until he was 18 months old, then stopped of his own accord (so I only actually had a year of him sleeping during the day as he didn't sleep until he was 6 months old

DS2 still had a regular nap until he was just over 3yrs old - still naps now sometimes and he's nearly 5

DS3 is 16 months and has 1/2-3hrs just after lunch.......

DD1 napped for 3 hours a day she was 2-2.5, and the on and off till she gave them up at 3.

DD2 is 21 months old and has a 60- 90 minute nap after lunch. I can see her going for another 6 months.
