New cot mattress

I'm sure this topic has been done to death but...

I'm having a new baby in Feb and after the moses basket they will go in the same cot that DD is in now as I will get her a cot bed. She will only have slept in it for 18 months and it was a brand new, good quality coil mattress from John Lewis. Do I really need to get a new one for the new baby? So far, it has never been wet, vomited on etc. I would wash the cover.

Alternatively, my Mum is planning on buying a new cot for occasional use at her house so I suppose I could give her that mattress and get a new one for here.

Those of you with 2 or more, did you buy a new mattress for each baby?

Thanks.

Both of mine have bed shared with us and we certainly didn't buy a new mattress!
