what do you do with your sleep routine during their 12 week growth spurt? let it all go out the window and hope they get back on track when it's over?

I'd like to know the answer to that too Becky! I think we're experiencing the 12 week growth spurt after just managing to sleep through the night. My bub had a really sleepy day yesterday, then was ravenous yesterday evening and woke a couple of times in the night again. She has started rolling over and is much more aware of her surroundings this week, so I'm guessing that's it. Hope things settled down for you!

yes, our precarious routine has also gone pear-shaped! several times in the past week to 10 days, in fact, so just how long does the growth spurt last???

we'd just settled into bed between 7-8, DH feed at 11, BF at 4 and then up at 7-8. last night she woke at 10:30 ravenous and then at 3:15 and again at 4:30! imagine how miffed i was when she wasn't so interested in breakfast! i had to use my top hand as a blinder to get her to concentrate on the boob in her face!

and by the way, the extra feed meant her nappy didn't last the night

are your naps affected as well?

all over the place - nearly 15 weeks here ..got bit better in last few days but was re night waking...as I speak have got rip van winkle who was awake at 4 but has slept most of today...

tiredm0m · 07/10/2008 19:43

sleep routine went to the crapper during my daughter's 12 week growth spurt. she ate like crazy, acted really sleepy but slept very little so needless to say she was really cranky. things settled after about 4 days or so and re-established the routine

they say that growth spurts can last anywhere from 3-7 days.

apparently the 6 month growth spurt is even worse

Hi Becky77,
we're now speeding towards the 19week developmental leap (DD's 16 wks) she's waking at really random times and has got into a nasty habit this week of waking an hour after bedtime!
When will it ever end???

mookickkick · 07/10/2008 21:20

yes, DD also waking up within an hour of falling asleep! and now workmen are tearing up the road outside her window. it's 9pm! i could scream

TheGabster · 07/10/2008 21:28

Hey Tiredmom - you are lucky.

Becky, Sorry to say, it last just over 2 weeks in this house.

jojoisamum · 08/10/2008 07:26

I think we're having this at the moment. DS would usually go 6.30-11-3.30-6.30 but last night was 6.00-10.00-12.45-1.30-2.15-3.30-5 and finally up at 6.

It's going to be a hard day as I can't get him to nap properly in the day either!

Becky77 · 08/10/2008 09:13

@ TettyLouBar - I think we gave birth to the same baby! My DD was exactly the same over the weekend... It only lasted about 4 nights though and now she's sleeping through without waking for a feed at all

We'll see how long this one lasts!

Woooo hooooo - what will you do with all that lovely sleep???!!!

mookickkick · 08/10/2008 13:30

Becky you give me hope. We had a bad night and what seems to be a bad day today... Going out in the pram to get some air!

Becky77 · 08/10/2008 13:50

My DD is 17 weeks now though mookickkick so you may have a while to wait yet Plus I'm sure it'll just be a short phase before the next developmental blip

Becky I'm sooo jealous DD seems to have gone backwards.
At one point about 4-5 weeks ago she was waking once for a feed, if that! Now she's up 2,3 sometimes 4 times, I can't understand how she almost went all night without a feed and now seems ravenous whenever she wakes up!!
I know its not forever, but it'd be nice to know when it'll start tailing off wouldn't it!

We have the same problem, this has given me the patience to sit it out for a few more days to see if it improves, I was starting to think he was coming down with something.
