how do i stop my newly mobile DD standing up when she should be having her nap?

my 8.5 month DD has stopped lying down for her naps, and it's driving me mad - every time i put her down, even when she's completely exhausted, she pops right back up, just because she can

how do i deal with this (short of velcroing her to her cot )? days without naps are just so hideous, grouchy and never ending...

I have posted this before and it's still true even now...

With my dd I have to physically hold her legs down for her (gently but firmly) so that she can settle down for a sleep some nights. Otherwise I just end up feeling like I've wrestled with a wild animal after 40 repetitions of laying her down only for her to stand up again.

I know it sounds horrid but she really does seem relieved to be able to go to sleep!

what happens if you just leave the room and leave her in her cot?

Can she sit down from standing - would leave her to get on with it - talking from experience

duck tape. works a treat.

actually I don't think you can do much ... unless she gets really upset to the point of hysteria, leave her to get on with it. otherwise just keep on laying her back down, over and over and over and over .... you will win out in the end.

thanks all - she can't sit down properly from standing but she doesn't tumble right over, so leaving her would be fine but once she's up and standing she stays that way and gradually gets starts crying when she notices she's been left

i will try holding her in place for a few seconds and also lying her down onc she's up and cross my fingers

tempted by the duck tape idea, though

so, this morning i just left her and she did indeed go off to sleep after about 20 minutes of whining and playing with her cot toys - i am thrilled

ten minutes and and DS not budging from end of cot! He getting pretty distressed! He is exhausted though, rubbing his eyes as I type (use of video monitor ) Its horrible! What do I do next? Continue to leave or go in after 15 mins and lay him down??

so i went in after 15mins, lay him down, rubbed his back for a min or two and he fell asleep! Typical!
