Duvets

I am probably being completely paranoid but for the first time my ds is using a duvet (he is 19 months old). It is a nice heavy cotton one but doesn't mould well round the body - if you see what I mean. It is so cold tonight, even with the heating on. I have just been up to see him and he has wrapped himself in it with just the top of his head peeping out. We have just moved the duvet down a bit but I am worried he will do it again and that he will suffocate. Am I being mad?

No just being a Mum!! The guidelines say duvets from 12 months so as long as it is a suitable duvet I think he will be fine HTH

while we're on the subject- what tog is suitable for a 1year old and anyone know why they have different togs to us

DD moved into her own big bed at the age of 20 months with just a "normal" single bed duvet. She has been fine. If she gets too warm she automatically wriggles out of it. She is now 2yrs 3 months.

Thanks all of you, I feel a better and won't worry too much. Actually mine doesn't have a tog rating - it's from the Greenbaby company (mail order) and I did wish I hadn't wasted the money as a) no tog rating and b) very heavy. But tonight it seems to help with the cold so maybe it wasn't such a bad buy.

If you are really worried - there is no need though 'cos its totally ok - why dont you get him a Gro Bag?? My 5 1/2 month old DD has one and they are so reassuring. The tog on it is 2.5 but no idea what tog duvets should be. I saw a starter kit in Index i think which will probably the perfect tog

I forgot to say that ds already has a grobag. He has used them almost since birth and with great success. It is just that it is so so cold at the moment - about 15 degrees in ds's room despite the heating been on (I think the radiator needs bleeding) and it gets colder during the night. Blankets and the grobag just haven't been enough to keep him warm, hence the duvet idea. What is Index - website or shop - as I haven't heard of it and always interested to find new places!

that's 9 tog. adults are about the same. does that mean that dd is ok under my duvet (1 now) just me and her in the bed

Ds is in a winter sleeping bag - but he will only sleep if the room is 24 degrees or higher. I'm terrified of him overheating

dd is in a gro bag 2.5 tog but i think she wakes in the night cos she's cold (also cos of eczema)She always ends up in bed with me and i have to have half the quilt on the floor so that she's sleeping on the sheet but with nothing else over her. Have been thinking of getting her a little quilt but don't know how that would work with my quilt

I have same prob with DD she sleeps best above the recommended temp in her gro bag. I sleep in same room and 18 degrees is chilly!!!
