Night weaning - a feed at a time or cold turkey?

What have other people done to stop the night feeds? My DS wakes to comfort feed back to sleep every two hours. So far I have managed to get rid of a couple of those feeds and he has gone back to sleep after a bit of crying. I don't let him cry more than half an hour and I check him regularly to reassure him. Last night it only took two minutes of crying so it's not been too bad at all.

I wonder if I should just cut it out completely or if I should let him keep a feed at 12 and at five and try to cut feeds out one at a time. I am worried it is confusing for him to be feed back to sleep sometimes and not others .

How old is he?

We cut it out completely. DD slept through in three days.
