Can't settle my 3 week old on her back

I have just had my second dd, she is three weeks old. My first dd, now 2, could never settle on her back when sleeping and we had the dilema of whether to put her on her front knowing all the cot death risks etc.
I now have exactly the same problem with my second dd and am exhausted as can never settle her on her back.
Does anyone have this same problem?

are you talking about settling her in the cot for the night?

My Godchild refused to sleep on her back, and she slept on her side, most odd to see in a new born. She is still here, large as life and twice as bold.

When DS did this we rolled towels up and put them down each side, he couldn't roll and it became learned behaviour.

when i first bought my cot, the mattress was solid and i noticed that baba couldnt settle so i put her in the moses backet coz the mattress was soft and she had no prob settling, then the moses basket became too small so i took the soft mattress from the moses basket and put it between the hard mattress and bed sheet for the comfort and she have no problems.

Yes, I mean settling her in cot for the night, although she is in a moses basket at the moment. For some reason she goes down ok on her side in the day for naps, but at night just will not settle on her side or back. End up with her sleeping on me on her front as is the only way she will sleep and I know she is ok, but I don't really sleep too well!

my ds1 slept on his side. mom put him down like that at first, and i just followed without really thinkng about it. he was fine with it. is seven now

or maybe baba prefer solid mattress or soft mattress?

DS settles much better on his side. Do worry a bit about the cot death thing, but also know that DS needs his sleep! Try to only let him do it when he first goes down, then put him on his back before I go to sleep when I am not able to keep frequent check on him.

will perservere with putting her on her side, or else see if a different mattress helps.

Both of mine went on their tummies, they both slept in my room.
Much happier and easier to settle from the word go
Obviously you have to weigh the risk factors...

DS was really colicky for the first 2 months.. and we use to put him down on his side..and sometimes in his front during the day...or noon...never at night...

it shouln't be at problem if he is in the room with you....

we did risk...a bit ...but he was happier like that and we manage some night sleep....

I do find that she is so much happier and settles straight away on her front, which is fine in the day, but a risk at night so I try her on her side.
Although, my generation were all put on our fronts.

I had this problem the first few weeks and then started to swaddle her in a light sheet first off all including the arms but then after about 6 weeks just from the chest downwards. It seemed to make her feel much more secure. Might be worth a go....
