Neighbour gardening late at night is affecting my sleep, any solutions?

My neighbour works in their garden till around 11pm every night, the trouble is I have to be up early for work. I tried using ear plugs but I can still hear him working on his garden. Anything else I can try? Are there any earplugs that block out 100% noise? Can a buy a soundproof bed cover?

I think you need to address the late night gardening issue because it’s not acceptable to be making noise at that time, but in answer to your query about ear plugs - I find wax earplugs are very effective. I get the Boots ones which used to be called Muffles but are now just called ‘mouldable wax earplugs’.

Just pottering or are they using power tools?

Have you tried white noise in your room? Anything from a fan to audio tracks of static or waves or rain. There are loads of free ones on digital audio.

I think if it is lawn mowing/hedge trimming then you might be able to report to the council.

If it is simply pottering about then I think you need to try more expensive noise cancelling earbuds - they do work.

What are they doing in the garden? They have the right to be out there but using noisy tools is obviously not okay.

Have you tried a snooze band? I only have the cheap one but it's great - there are more expensive ones now, especially if you play white noise through them.

I'm sorry, EAR PLUGS are not the answer.
Try to find out when HIS early starts are then get some machinery TWICE as loud going in YOUR garden. I've been in a similar situation and this method works instantly. It's really a miracle how quick this works.

I think there are laws where you are not allowed to be doing this kinda stuff between certain times can't think of the top of my head what the times are but usually the council say try to have a discussion with your neighbour first to solve the problem .
If this doesn't work you can then log a complaint with the council and it's good if u make a note of times and being able to make a recording . HTH

In my local council that would be 11pm-7am so wouldn't be any help in this situation.
What kind of gardening are they doing in the dark OP? Surely they can't have enough light to be using lawn mowers etc and no-one cuts their grass every night.
The boots wax earplugs are really good. I have nocturnal teens and I don't hear them at all with them in.

How are they gardening that late now it's dark at 8pm? if it's just pottering about etc then I'm surprised it's that noisy. If it's using electric tools then you need to say something, but I can't see how they're using them in the dark?
I have some excellent noise cancelling headphones from Sony.
